Megan stars in "South Pacific"!!

Sparks, Nevada. Our very own Megan J. is currently starring in her spring high school musical, "South Pacific." Being the theater lover that I am, I flew out for the event. Megan is a nurse, is a part of the chorus, and had a few solo lines. She has a wonderful voice. Megan and the whole theater gang also appeared today in the Sparks newspaper (check out the link below)! Her amazing mother, Heidi, was the costume designer, and also made the majority of the costumes, as well!! And, to think I'm related to such amazing talent... I must take credit for the actual nurses caps (not seen in these photo)...I told her that they were still made and actually available for purchase for a nominal fee. I don't know how to do this the proper way, but go to this link for the whole story... http://www.rgj.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080425/SPARKS/804250456/1247/NEIGHBORHOODS

I just can't stop singing..."some enchanted evening....."!

Our Hometown Hero!

  • Cancer has touched each of our lives, and Mike has experienced this life challenge first hand. He's a SURVIVOR!!

Mike was a "Hometown Hero" at the Salt Lake City Marathon bike tour on Saturday, April 19th. He earned money to support the the Hunstman Cancer Institute...even earning a "Hero's" jersey. It was great to be out there and ride with Mike.

Saturday we rode the 26.2 mile marathon course before the runners set out. A fun, non-competitive ride, a great "tour" of SLC...over 1700 riders...it was nice to not have to worry about stop lights--just crusin' on through! We finished in about 1:25. And all for a great cause.... Mike earned nearly $800 for cancer research! Mike was awesome, and Becky and Emily cheered us on at the finish.

ROAD TRIP: Vegas!

After a very snowy final week of the DV ski season, it was time for a little fun in the sun....

My friends, Megan and Joy, and I loaded the road bikes on the car for the first road trip of the year. We headed south to Las Vegas last Friday, April 11th, to meet up with our friend Chris Sommers. We enjoyed incredible weather, blue skies, sunshine, and temps in the 70's (truly heavenly!). This was my first time on a bike this year. Not in the finest form, but it was great...it was just so nice to be OUTSIDE pedalling... and wearing SHORTS (not my parka and Sorrells!).

We broke out the "team" "Punto bici" jerseys, which Joy and I bought for all the gals on our cycling trip to Italy last fall. We found the Punto bici (bicycle) shop in Perugia quite by accident. The shop owner was proud to think his team jerseys would be out on the roads of the USA.

We rode in the Red Rock Conservation Area, not far from where our Vegas siblings live.... What a beautiful place! What a perfect time of year, not too hot, and wildflowers blooming everywhere. If you haven't been there, I highly recommend it. Next time, I'd like to do some of the hikes. Road trip anyone?

A trip to Vegas would not be complete without a visit with the fam. Thanks Rich and Heidi, Dave, Les and kids! Very memorable was the rousing games of "Duck, Duck, Goose." Spence truly takes this game to a new level! The final picture is Spence rouding the turn for maybe the 8th time, Elle "ducking" for cover. I really need to work on my action photography with this guy around!

April 7th? or January 7th? You be the judge!!

As a gal who considers snowflakes "kisses from heaven," today I felt especially loved!! We experienced a rare late season treat... about 10 inches of deep powder, and it dumped on us all morning long!! At 1:00 pm I had to use 4WD to get out of my parking space, and did experience my worst morning commute of the season! Here is a picture of me by "the sign"--I had the morning "Expert Tour." My guests (Dave from ski school and Stef from Germany) and I had untracked powder all morning. Wish you could have been there. I can't believe we close in 6 days...it truly does feel like January.

What we wanted to be when we were 13!

The Deer Valley host department had our closing party last Saturday with the theme "what we wanted to be when we were 13." Well, when I was 13, "Charlie's Angel's" was all the rage... I chose Jaqueline Smith. When I showed up there were 2 other "Angel's"! This pic is of me, a Layton Lancer high school cheerleader (no, I'm not making that up... I guess I could have dressed as that, too!) Jody, and a competitive volleyball player, Jen. We had a great time!
